Pasos hacia el éxito (Steps to Success Workshop)

El 14 de noviembre, el Sandbox Lanza Tu Idea celebró su primer taller en español Pasos hacia el éxito: Relato de un emprendedor con el reconocido empresario Benny Espaillat. Este evento se llevo a cabo en Lawrence CommunityWorks.

La noche comenzó con los emprendedores conectándose entre sí. Esta fue una gran oportunidad para ellos compartir sus ideas y ver qué más está pasando en la comunidad.

Cuando se inició el taller, el señor Espaillat (fundador de Zapatos Aqui) relato su historia inspiradora acerca de su motivación, los desafíos y éxitos. Al venir a este país cuando era un adolescente, asistió a la Escuela Secundaria de Lawrence. Empezó vendiendo pastelitos en  una bodega local. Fue tan exitoso, que en el primer año ganó $ 20.000. Él aprovechó su primer capital para inicial Zapatos Aqui que emplea a residentes de Lawrence y tiene zapatos que se venden por todo el mundo.

Un grupo de más de una docena de emprendedores fueron cautivados por cada una de las palabras del señor Espaillat. “Fue muy inspirador escuchar a Benny Espaillat hablar de su historia”, dijo Sonia Terbullino, la fundadora de Manos en Acción. “Tengo pensado incorporar en mi negocio muchos de los consejos de esta noche.”

Basándose en su experiencia empresarial Benny compartió algunos consejos de  sabiduría con estos nuevos emprendedores:

• Hay 3 tipos de emprendedores que todos los equipos deben tener
  • Visionario – ve más allá del momento
  • Técnico – se centra en los detalles
  • Administrador – mantiene sus pies en el suelo

• Sé humilde
• Siempre busque consejo
• Mire más allá de su alrededor. Plataformas como el Internet puede ayudarle a ampliar
• Si se trabaja con su familia asigne las funciones de cada uno y respetar esos roles
• Ser el pez más pequeño en pecera
• La actitud lo es todo!

On November 14^th, Sandbox Lanza Tu Idea held Steps to Success: Story of an Entrepreneur, a workshop in Spanish that featured renowned entrepreneur Benny Espaillat. Lawrence CommunityWorks hosted the event in Lawrence . The evening kicked off with entrepreneurs networking with each other. This was a great chance for them to share their ideas and see what else is going on in the community.

When the workshop began, Mr. Espaillat (founder of Zapatos Aqui) shared his inspirational story about about his drive, challenges, and successes. Coming to this country as a teenager, he attended Lawrence High School. He started out selling pastelitos to a local bodega. It was such a success, that in the first year he made $20,000!  He leveraged the capital from that to start Zapatos Aqui which today employs Lawrence residents and has shoes being sold all around the world.

The crowd of over a dozen entrepreneurs were locked in to Mr. Espaillet’s every word. “It was very inspiring to hear Benny Espaillat talk about his story,” says Sonia Terbullino, the Founder of Manos en Acción. “There are many tips from tonight that I plan to incorporate in my non-profit.”

Based on Mr. Espaillet’s entrepreneurship experience he provided tips of wisdom to these emerging entrepreneurs:

• Be humble
• Always seek advice
• Look beyond your local block. Platforms like the internet can help you expand
• If working with family set roles and respect those roles
• Be the smallest fish in the fish tank
• Attitude is everything!
• There are 3 type of entrepreneurs that all teams should have
  • Visionary – sees beyond the moment
  • Technical – focuses in the details
  • Administrator – keeps their feet on the ground
