University to University Transportation Company LLC (UTUTC)

Class: 2013 Winter Accelerator

Company Description

The University to University Transportation Company (UTUTC) is a transportation service exclusively for college students to travel between major universities for events in the New England area. We strive to provide students with an opportunity to visit any major university in New England very (1) Cheap, (2) Conveniently, and (3) Comfortably. The UTUTC creates an atmosphere of friends and fellow students all traveling to the same event; encouraging students to be social and create new friendships. We will pick you up at 1 University Ave and bring you directly to the event. Students must have a .edu email account and their school identification card to travel with the UTUTC.

Working on reaching out to my true target audience after listening to that wonderful talk from Desh and Ken. I have made a lot of progress in the past week regarding the development of the website. Terms and Services and privacy policy have been uploaded to the website. Electronic signature for the liability waiver is now done and uploaded and is waiting to be implemented in the payment process. Now I am focusing more on the marketing. I am handing off most of the programming and designing finishing touches to developers so that I can focus my efforts on reaching out to my target market.

The big question right now is how do I reach my true target market? The students at Umass Lowell who attend concerts at UML and other schools. I wish that I could get a list of all of these students but that is obviously not possible so I am thinking of ways to find out who these people are. Hmm… The people that like to attend concerts probably like to attend parties also, maybe I can reach out to a few people I know and ask them to each reach out to a few people they know. Also looking at Facebook events in the past they may have joined and of course other social networks. Looking into getting flyers printed for cheap and posting them up all over the school.

What I learned most from the meeting with Desh and Ken is the work ethic that Desh had. Everything he said showed that he was a hard worker whether it was waking up at 4AM and working on his company and then going to work or working until midnight, skipping dinner and only going back home to see his family.  I will not allow myself to go to sleep early anymore. I will not waste any time that I can spend usefully working on the UTUTC. I will not rest until I succeed.

Another great meeting with my other two mentors tonight. Went over a lot of legal and technical issues. Gained a lot of useful and helpful knowledge that will help me succeed in the immediate future.  A little bit of a dose of reality on some issues but I am glad that I am now aware of them.

We will be making changes in the near future and they are changes that will help us become a more successful and legitimate company.

Also hashed out my three goals that I will be presenting tomorrow.

Just had a great meeting with my mentor John Howard. Discussed some very important steps that must be taken before UTUTC can be launched. Went over the fundamentals and the basics of the whole company from financials to operations to marketing. Really looking forward to working with him more in the future. Also looking forward to meeting my other two mentors John and Tom on Wednesday. And of course looking forward to our weekly sandbox meetings tomorrow and Thursday. Hoping to launch soon, this is crunch time and I’m hoping to perform like “Mr. Clutch” Jerry West.

Good news. Just spoke with the transportation company that I am partnering with and turns out they do not put any liabilty on me. I will still be getting insurance to cover anything that may happen on the bus or during the event bus as far as crashes go that is all on them. I will get it in writing.

Working on uploading a new payment form to the website that Karen found during our Tuesday meeting. It is coded in ruby on rails and needs a lot of command line to be installed so this is a process but it is well worth the work.

Have partnered with Umass Amherst to provide discounted event tickets to non-Umass students. Will hear back from UNH when they have more information about their spring concert. Looking into other schools that may be suitable for the UTUTC.

Had a great mentor meeting tonight with Bill Contente, taught me that legal issues and liability is even more important than I thought it was. Looking into making sure I am protected fully before I launch. Also looking into legal negotiations with the bus companies that I will be working with and the insurance companies.
