Entrepreneur Program Blog / Sandbox Entrepreneur Raises $25K for Local Veterans

On November 9th, Sandbox Entrepreneur Trisha Blanchet of Operation Delta Dog raised over $25,000 at her Walk & Wag for Veterans event! Over 350 people came out to Carlisle, MA on this Veteran’s Day weekend to support the organization’s mission of providing local disabled veterans with service dogs. Of those who attended, 100 were veterans, including four who have received service dogs from Operation Canine. The family-oriented event included kids’ activities, a silent auction, and a scenic route to walk/bike on.

“We were so pleased with the amazing turnout,” said Trisha. “All of the attendees were so generous with their time and donations. With the money we raised, we can now start training new dogs immediately for veterans who are dealing with illnesses such as Post-Traumatici Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).”

Various people from the Sandbox network attended including, Anne-Marie Messier (Sandbox Mentor/President of Straightline Solutions, David Parker (Executive Director of the Sandbox), Jim McHugh (Sandbox Mentor/President of McHugh & Company), Raj Melville (Executive Director of the Deshpande Foundation), Stephen Irish (Sandbox Mentor/C.O.O of Enterprise Bank), and Steven Coleman (Sandbox Mentor/Principal of Navigator Advisors).

In addition to Trisha’s success at the fundraiser, she was featured in Sunday’s Boston Globe.

A year ago, Trisha approached the Sandbox with the idea of starting Operation Delta Dog. After winning $10K at our Winners Showdown Pitch Contest and participating in our 2013 Winter Accelerator, she turned that idea into a reality!
